The 1.Bundesliga club is one of the country’s most popular clubs in terms of attendance; the driving force behind plans to increase the capacity of the club’s AOL-Arena. The stadium currently has a capacity of 55,800 with club officials announcing plans to increase the capacity to more than 60,000. “We’ve been given the green light and work will start even before our first game after the winter break,” announced stadium manager Kurt Kr?gel. Work will begin this month to add 200 additional seats with room also being added for 900 fans in a standing-room only section. The second part of the construction will start after this summer’s World Cup, in which AOL-Arena is scheduled to host several first-round games and a quarterfinal.
