The Ligue 1 club is to build a new 60,000-seat stadium to be completed in 2011, in aim to move from the 39,000-seat Stade Gerland into a state-of-the art arena. “The Lyon mayor is trying to find a way to help us out in order to build a stadium that would welcome more people. We are currently finishing off a written project that will be given to the relevant people. The mayor is reportedly keen to renovate the existing stadium, but has conceded that it may not be possible. I want to do all I can to see if we can extend the arena. If we don't manage to do so I agree to have a new stadium built as long as it remains inside the city,” club president Jean-Michel Aulas commented to media
