Abramovich to fund new stadium

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s National Academy of Sport, a non-commercial organization, is to finance the construction of a new 50,000-capacity ground for the Russian national team in Moscow. The construction in the Botanical Garden area of the city could begin as early as next year and will take up to three years to complete. The Russian national team mainly hosts its matches at the 30,000 capacity Lokomotiv stadium. Mayor of Moscow Yury Luzhkov has concluded the deal, although he has previously had conflicts with Abramovich, having accused him of stealing oil from Russia and Moscow.
