Spanish Valencia announced plans for a 75,000-capacity stadium with an eye toward using it as a venue for a Champions League final.
The new stadium will be located in the congress area in the north of the city, and has been designed by British architects Reid Fenwick Associates.
It is expected to be ready for the 2009-2010 season.
The project will be financed by the sale of the land where the present Mestalla stadium is located, which will then be used to build apartments.
"We can be proud that we are going to have the best stadium in the world," club president Juan Bautista Soler said.
