Wembley to open earlier

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
Wembley stadium is set to open two months earlier than expected instead of the planned date in May. The new and improved £757m stadium will host two matches ahead of the FA Cup Final to secure the required safety certificate from Brent Council. Australian construction firm Multiplex is unlikely to make a profit on the redevelopment work at the stadium because of spiraling costs. Wembley National Stadium Limited, a subsidiary of the Football Association, expects to start turning a profit by 2020. The Wembley project has been primarily funded by bank loans totaling £433m; the FA’s contribution was £148m, £120m from the national lottery and £40m from taxpayers. However officials have successfully generated more than £200m in ticket sales with more than half of the corporate seats having been sold, with packages includes tickets for the final and both semi-finals of the FA Cup, the Carling Cup final England Internationals and music concerts.
