MLS Real Salt Lake already has used much of the USD 35 million in county hotels taxes, spending it on stadium land, parking and development.
The city of Sandy, Utah, had offered an extra USD 10 million to the club, but that could be cut short if the county does not surrender its share of extra property tax money generated by the 20,000-seat stadium.
There is a point of contention with the council, as the legislature overturned the county's decision to not financially support the stadium. With that ruling, the USD 35 million was taken from the county.
If the county does not grant approval for the extra money, the burden will fall on the club.
At the same time, the club is trying to generate income from naming revenue, seeking out companies that might be interested in lending their name to the stadium for the price of USD 30 million for 15 seasons.
