Bundesliga Bayer Leverkusen will start renovations on its BayArena stadium at the end of this year. The plans include increasing the seating capacity from 22,500 to 30,000 at a cost of EUR 56 million and the stadium is expected to be ready for the start of the 2009-2010 season.
The hospitality area will be extended by 2,000 places, while the areas that house the dressing rooms and treatment facilities will be more than quadrupled. The media sector will provide 228 working places, almost double its current number.
The club's chief executive, Wolfgang Holzhaeuser, said the work would provide the stadium not only with modern infrastructure but also an "additional earnings potential."
"We are very pleased the plans have been approved for the upgrade of the stadium. It points to a successful future for the club," he said. "In the new BayArena, we will have a state-of-the-art infrastructure with excellent corporate facilities."
