English Bristol Rovers had their proposal for a new stadium accepted by city council planning officers and reviewed by the Bristol City Council.
The club had been granted permission for an 18,500-seat stadium, but decided to pull back on the capacity. There also were a variety of other changes – combining a restaurant and conference center, reducing the IT training center, changes to the restaurant due to caterer's request — that led to a resubmission of plans.
"These changes are considered and are not significant within the scope of the project," read a statement from the club. "The enabling developments provide finance to secure the delivery of the redevelopment of the Memorial Stadium and the viability of the proposal was rigorously assessed to ensure that the project was not a 'profit driven' exercise."
The switch will force the club to play home matches at varying places. They once had an agreement with Cheltenham Town, but now might have to strike a deal with Swindon Town, Yeovil Town or Ashton Gate.
