West Ham will not use Olympic Stadium

Eggert Magnusson, new owner of English West Ham, thought playing at London's Olympic Stadium after the 2012 Games would be a "dream" but organising chairman Lord Coe says it would not be large enough.

Magnusson would not be against keeping the stadium's track and field facilities, perhaps with removable seats, but does not want to reduce the seating capacity to 25,000. At present, the club can seat 35,303 at its current stadium.

"We are currently waiting for the final conclusions of a report but we do know that at Games time it will be 80,000 and its legacy will be 25,000. It will have 25,000 seats," Coe told BBC News24.

Coe would not comment specifically on West Ham but insisted that the main purpose of the stadium would be for athletics.

"We will wait for the final presentation of the report and I am not going to speculate, said Coe.

"We have always made it clear we will go forward with track and field facilities but we will encourage other sports to become involved. It will have very important community use."
