Hibernian looks forward to new training ground

John Collins, Scotland's Hibernian club manager, said work will begin Monday on its new GBP 3 million training ground, but it will not be ready for the start of next season.

The club had spent GBP 640,000 for 36 acres of land east of Edinburgh to build a training center that will include up to ten outdoor pitches and indoor facilities.

The club received planning permission for the site in East Lothian but delays in getting building permits have delayed the start of building at what was once a milk processing plant.

Hibernian hoped the players would be able to use the facilities for pre-season training next season but that will not happen.

Collins is looking forward to having a dedicated base.

"The latest I've been told is that there's a 5 March start and the finish is a little bit later than we hoped for," said Collins.

"The building may be ready for August, but for the actual pitches we are talking about October.

"I'm looking forward to getting there so, so much. The players have done remarkably well when you consider what we are asking them to train on day-in, day-out. The standard they are producing is all credit to them."
