English Sheffield Wednesday is announced that Silicon Valley software company WANdisco will be the club’s first Platinum Partners.

Platinum Partners is a new top tier sponsorship package introduced for the coming season which supports both the club and our main partners, The Children’s Hospital, Sheffield.

As Platinum Partners, WANdisco will work closely with The Children’s Hospital, helping to raise funds and awareness of campaigns while also enjoying many benefits associated with being a top level sponsor of Sheffield Wednesday.

WANdisco is a leading provider of distributed software development solutions. By using WANdisco's totally unique replication technology, software development can now occur anywhere without any constraints. Companies such as AT&T, Honda, Intel and Motorola rely on WANdisco's suite of source code management solutions. Originally based in San Ramon, California, the firm established a new base in Sheffield in 2008 and are looking to recruit for several specialised roles from the South Yorkshire region in the coming months.

David Richards, chief executive officer of WANdisco, said: “We are delighted to become Sheffield Wednesday’s first Platinum Partners, because there are genuine benefits not just for the club and ourselves but more importantly for The Children’s Hospital, Sheffield.

“WANdisco probably would not have partnered with a football club in a traditional sponsorship deal but the partnership with The Children’s Hospital illustrates how much value the club attaches to its community. We are really pleased to establish a strong relationship with The Children’s Hospital as Platinum Partners and look forward to doing our bit to help raise funds for and awareness of the hospital.”

Through their partnership, WANdisco are launching a Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for The Children’s Hospital Charity on the weekend of September 5. WANdisco are inviting local businesses to join them and a team from Sheffield Wednesday to scale the three highest peaks in Yorkshire.

Sheffield City Council and Creative Sheffield are just two companies who have already committed to the challenge and it is hoped that many more will join this venture.

David Vernon-Edwards, Director of The Children's Hospital Charity, said: "We are delighted that WANdisco have decided to form this special relationship with Sheffield Wednesday and our charity. The company are really enthusiastic about the work that we do and it is fantastic news that they have already set themselves a fundraising challenge.

"We hope other local businesses will follow WANdisco's lead and join them on their Three Peaks Challenge. All the money raised from the challenge will help us provide the latest medical equipment for our young patients and help the hospital maintain its reputation as a world class centre of excellence for the care, prevention and cure of illness."

Sheffield Wednesday chairman, Lee Strafford, added: “We are delighted to welcome WANdisco as our first Platinum Partners and delighted to provide an avenue for more companies to forge strong relationships with The Children’s Hospital. WANdisco wanted to be involved with Sheffield Wednesday largely because of our partnership with The Children’s Hospital Charity. The hospital is already starting to feel the benefits from this and hopefully WANdisco’s challenge event will encourage more firms to become Platinum Partners.”
