Microsoft on board with MLS Seattle

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
The expansion MLS franchise in Seattle picked up a well-known Northwest shirt sponsor in Microsoft, Corp.

The Seattle Sounders FC will begin play in 2009, and have Microsoft aboard as one of its first sponsors, and on the front of its jerseys. The deal is over five years for USD 20 million.

The club now has secured corporate sponsors and has a supporters' group in place. The group has some power in that it can vote out the general manager once every four years, giving the club a little feel of the way European clubs are run.

The Sounders also have 16,000 season ticket applications in place. Already, the club believes it will have the biggest attendance in the league.

Now the club must fill out its roster. Only one player has signed, and that is Sebastian Le Toux, who played for the Seattle club in the United Soccer Leagues, almost a U.S. version of second tier.
