EIRCOM could drop league sponsorship

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) might see its partnership with EIRCOM come to a close. Although EIRCOM is currently involved in renewal negotiations with the FAI, it is uncertain at this point whether or not domestic football will remain part of the deal.

One of the main issues left to be resolved is EIRCOM's sponsorship of the senior international team. Speculation has surfaced that a 12-month extension of the contract is being offered, which will take the company to the end of the 2010 World Cup.

Neither the FAI or EIRCOM will comment on the situation, but it has been confirmed that the two parties are amid discussion. EIRCOM has been a sponsor of the FAI since 2000, and played a key role in helping the FAI obtain prize money and subsidies throughout the current season.

The pending decision is receiving an array of feedback from the clubs involved, with some supporting the notion that a sponsorship package should be offered independently.
