Nike lands FFF kit contract

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
Nike outbid sporting supply rival adidas to supply the French national teams kits, starting in 2011 and running through the 2017-2018 season.

The French Football Federation (FFF) said it made the move because it tapped into more resources. Adidas had supplied the FFF since 1972.

The deal will land the French team EUR 320 million over the course of the contract, or approximately EUR 42.66 million each season, and the value of the equipment supplied will reach at least an additional EUR 2.5 million a year through the course of the deal.

It was the first successful takeover of a major national football player for Nike. The company had been trying to pry national team contracts from adidas and Puma. Nike made a high offer to Germany's national team last year, but they stuck with adidas, which has served the German team since 1954.

Nike outfits national teams including Brazil and the United States.
