Honda end MLS sponsorship

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
Anheuser-Busch will stand as the last remaining original MLS sponsor after Honda announced it would end its 12-year relationship with the league.

"The reasons are based on the changing competitive landscape and shifts in marketing strategy," said Barbara Ponce, the manager of corporate diversity advertising for American Honda. "Sponsorship decisions are proprietary."

MLS senior vice president of marketing and communications Dan Courtemanche said MLS had not received any official notification, though Ponce said a letter had been sent informing the league of the decision.

Honda was one of six original MLS sponsors and its logo has adorned the back of the Chicago Fire jersey for several years.

Including Honda, the MLS has 11 top-tier sponsors.
