The Russian oil company Sibneft owned by billionaire Roman Abramovich has signed a sponsorship agreement with Russian Premier Club CSKA Moscow. The three year deal, reported € 45m (€ 15m every season) placed the club on the top of the European sponsorship deals list, beside English Premier Manchester United /Vodafone. As general sponsor, Sibneft will have exclusive rights to use CSKA’s name, trademark, logotype, photographs and team image in its marketing and advertising activities, both in Russia and abroad. Sibneft has long been a major supporter of sports in the regions where it operates. For several years, the company has served as general sponsor of top Russian premier league hockey team HK Avangard (city of Omsk), spending upwards of $10m per year on the development of hockey in the Omsk region. Sibneft is also general sponsor of the upcoming international biathlon championships, to be held in Khanty-Mansiisk later this week. “We view supporting sports as an important part of the company’s social responsibility,” said Sibneft president Eugene Shvidler. “Our partnership with the CSKA football club will help to grow and expand Russian football’s presence in the European arena. We are confident in the success of Russian sport and will offer maximum assistance towards that end.”
