UEFA rounded out its Global Sponsor lineup for EURO 2008 with an agreement with Castrol.
The deal covers product categories including lubricants, oils and fuels.
"The announcement of Castrol as the last Global Sponsor for UEFA EURO 2008 completes the global sponsorship programme a full 20 months ahead of the event itself and in record time — over a year earlier than for UEFA EURO 2004 in Portugal," UEFA released in a statement.
Castrol joins Carlsberg, Coca-Cola, JVC, Hyundai-Kia, MasterCard and McDonald's as companies that have comprehensive rights across all of UEFA's national-team competitions. Also on board are adidas, Continental and one company still to be announced.
"Our new relationship with football via UEFA EURO 2008 will give Castrol the opportunity to develop business building opportunities in a way that will add value to our business partners, excite and reward our consumers and motivate staff," said Roy Williamson, Castrol's European marketing director.
"Our commitment as a new sponsor is to be a partner to football in a way that enhances still further the incredible UEFA European Football Championship experience and spectacle."
The conclusion of the global marketing programme sales means that UEFA will continue to focus on the National Supporter programme packages in Austria and Switzerland. Currently, UBS in Switzerland and Telekom Austria and Austria Post in Austria are signed as National Supporters.
"We welcome Castrol as a new sponsor to our global family supporting the UEFA European Football Championship," said UEFA Chief Executive Lars-Christer Olsson. "The addition of Castrol proves what a strong property the UEFA EURO has become in the global sports market.
"It is the second biggest sporting event globally in terms of TV viewers and continues to attract massive participation and involvement from fans and non-fans alike, drawn to the drama and excitement that comes with top national-team football."
