Swedbank now holds the naming rights for the national football stadium to be built outside of Stockholm.
The bank will pay EUR 16.7 million to the Swedish FA for a 16-year naming rights contract. The overall arena costs will be approximately EUR 200 million, and the finish time is projected to be around 2011 or 2012.
The area will have flats and shops, as well as office space.
The deal was a boon for the FA.
"This is an excellent deal for Swedish football," FA general secretary Sune Hellstromer, said. "It means that we are on the same level as the Emirates Stadium in London and the Allianz Arena in Munich."
The bank has a high sports profile in the nation. Swedbank has an arena sponsorship deal for the Modo hockey team, and the bank has another naming rights deal in place with Allsvenskan, a football club.
"This is in line with Swedbank's efforts of creating opportunities for social and business development, which will benefit many people," said Swedbank chairman Carl Eric Stalberg. "This way Swedbank Arena will have a unique dimension of use. As a central point in the new arena city, Swedbank Arena will also contribute to a living metropolitan district and a meeting place for national and international events intended for a broad range of target groups."
