The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has joined with car company Ford in a fpur-year deal, worth between EUR 2 million and EUR 3 million.
Ford will replace Fiat as the official car sponsor of the FAI, but its ultimate ambition is to replace one of the FAI's larger sponsors such as Eircom, which is the primary sponsor of the national team.
The company is believed to be interested in sponsoring some of the FAI's community programmes. Ford has links with a number of international football events, such as the UEFA Champions League.
The new deal will be announced formally in Dublin shortly before Ireland manager Steve Staunton announces his squad for the first of the EURO 2008 qualifying matches against Germany.
