Russian Krylya Sovetov Samara soon could strike a sponsorship deal with Rosneft, that nation's largest oil company, allowing the club to escape financial woes.
Club president Alexander Baranovski is looking for a deal that could bring in USD10-15 million, greatly expanding Krylya's yearly budget of USD 20-25 million a year. The club has debts of approximately USD 5.4 million.
"We trust that we will be able to accumulate the money thanks to Rosneft, our own income and budget," he said.
The deal could cover about half of the club's expenses.
Krylya's financial troubles started in 2005 when German Tkachenko, the president at the time, said he could not fund the club. After Tkachenko left, the club did not find a sponsor.
