Insurance group Aegon is to replace ABN Amro bank as the new main sponsor of Dutch Ajax Amsterdam, the Telegraaf newspaper reported on Tuesday. According to the Telegraaf, Aegon will pay EUR 12 million a-year to the club, in a contract which will run for seven years.
Ajax current main sponsor ABN Amro is paying EUR 7 million a-year, and the contract was originally signed to end of 2011. According to ANP more details on the new sponsorship deal will be announced at Ajax members meeting this week, and the fact that ABN Amro is ending its sponsorship earlier has nothing to do with the major developments regarding a takeover taking place at the ABN Amro bank.
