Manchester City going east for money

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
English Manchester City manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is going to Asia in search of sponsorship, not players.

The English Manchester City manager is heading East in an effort to finalise some sponsorship deals. He insisted Thai players will not be heading home with him.

There are Thai ties with Manchester City owner Thaksin Shinawatra being the former prime minister of that nation. Eriksson said the owner has not strong-armed him into bringing back players from the nation.

Eriksson's travels are scheduled to take him to Bangkok and Shanghai in pursuit of wrapping of four sponsorship deals. The club is expected to reap GBP 10million from the agreements. The majority of the money is coming from China, not Thailand.

The club also is checking into establishing academies in Asia.
