LG Electronics has signed a GBP 3 million a-year deal with Fulham Football Club to become the team's new shirt sponsor. The The pact which was signed in a two-year deal with the option of adding an extra year, will go into effect next month when LG will take over internet provider Pipex sponsorship.
LG has been looking to sponsor a Premiership team for some time and had been also in talks with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
LG will use the sponsorship as part of its efforts to step up marketing in Britain. The company said its monthly sales exceeded USD 100 million dollars in the United Kingdom last year.
LG wants to extend its existing electrical goods department in Harrods, and is thought to be negotiating a lucrative floorspace agreement with Harrods as part of the deal. Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed also owns Fulham.
LG is also the official mobile phone supplier to Fulham and Arsenal.
