English Charlton's shirt sponsorship is in trouble with Spanish property firm Grupo Llanera is financial difficulties.
The company is currently negotiating a EUR 150 million loan from its creditors, Lehman, after falling behind on debt payments. Grupo Llanera has a GBP 6.6 million shirt sponsorship deal with Charlton, signed in December 2005. It also has a GBP 2 million deal with rugby club London Irish.
This is nothing new to Charlton, which had All:sports go into administration in 2005 midway through a GBP 3 million shirt deal.
Grupo Llanera, chief executive Fernando Gallego described the situation as a "temporary liquidity problem" with EUR 2 million in missed payments.
