Infront announces its first World Cup Radio agreement
World Cup 2006 - 05 July, 2004
Infront Sports & Media has reached a non-exclusive agreement for the radio broadcasting rights of the 2006 FIFA World Cup with the French national radio sports station RMC. The agreement is for France and the Principality of Monaco and includes a package of live and delayed rights that will enable RMC to broadcast the event in full. Radio coverage of the FIFA World Cup is becoming increasingly important as a category of the overall broadcast. The 2002 FIFA World Cup allowed radio rights to be offered independently and separately from television for the first time, acknowledging the growth in radio and its importance as a communication medium for the FIFA World Cup. RMC was an official radio broadcaster in 2002 and is continuing its relationship with the forthcoming 2006 event taking place in Germany. RMC airs more live sports events in France than any other radio broadcaster and it plans to offer its audience an extraordinary level of coverage of the event, on a par with 14 hours a day that it recently dedicated to its coverage of the Olympic Games in Athens. "Radio coverage is a vital and growing component of the overall coverage of the FIFA World Cup(TM)" said Oliver Seibert, an Executive Director of Infront. "Its part of our commitment to ensure 24/7 access to the world's most popular event".
