Premier League title sponsor Barclays group sponsorship director Nic Gault was quoted on media for claiming that LED perimeter advertising boards are ”irritating” and “distracting”. Gault criticize the use of the technology, but claimed to have been misquoted, adding that he was talking about the few examples where boards have been used for moving images during games. O’Neill Moving Media, the supplies of the LED boards at Premier League club Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium, and officials from Vodafone, the club’s main sponsor, have emphasized that moving images will not be used during games. However, a survey conducted by sports communications research company SPORT MARKT illustrated that the majority of supporters questioned thought the LED boards were “effective”, with 64% of the 300 people aged between 14 and 65 in England disagrees that digitalization of perimeter advertising was “too much of a distraction”.
