Beckham signed deal to endorse Disney

Spanish Real Madrid footballer David Beckham, who signed a contract earlier this month to play for Major League Soccer club LA Galaxy, was cast as Prince Charming by the Walt Disney Company and agreed to endorse the Disney brand.

Beckham's role as Prince Charming, a character from the Disney story "Sleeping Beauty", will put him in the company of actress Scarlett Johansson and pop-star Beyonce Knowles to promote Disneyland and Walt Disney World's "Year of a million dreams" campaign.

Knowles was cast as Alice from 'Alice in Wonderland' and actress Johansson posed as Cinderella.

Photographer to the stars, Annie Leibovitz, took the picture of Beckham outside Madrid, when the former England captain was playing for Real Madrid. The Paris Disneyland castle was then superimposed in the background.

"I'm the prince, and I'm sort of slaying a dragon, which is something I've never done before, obviously," said Beckham.

"When I was called about it and asked to do it, I was very honoured and really looking forward to it, especially with Annie doing the pictures." Beckham signed a reported GBP 66 million, five-year deal, with the Galaxy and will start at the end of the season.

Beckham's move to the US could also lead to him renegotiate a GBP 40 million sponsorship deal with FMCG giant Gillette. That deal is set to end later this year with sportsmen Roger Federer, Thierry Henry and Tiger Woods promoting Gillette internationally.
