A source close to Lagrdere SCA told Agence France Presse, that the company has made a final bid to buy the international sports marketing agency SPORTFIVE.

According to the French sports daily, L'Equipe, Lagardere is the most likely bidder for SPORTFIVE, which is worth EUR 800 million.

Two other interested parties are Stephane Courbit, president of TV production group Endemol France, in association with LVMH chief executive Bernard Arnault and Leonard Blavatnik, a Russian oil baron, along with Robert Louis-Dreyfus, the main shareholder of the Olympique Marseille football club.

A Lagardere representative refused comment on the bid, as did Advent International, the private equity group that owns 65 percent of SPORTFIVE.

RTL owns 25 percent of the company while SPORTFIVE's management owns a 10 percent share.

SPORTFIVE's portfolio includes over 30 European football associations and it owns the television broadcasting rights to the EURO 2008.
