European Consultancy Network (ECN) believed it was ready to help England make a run at the 2018 World Cup bid. That was the case for six months. Now, if they want to counsel again to the FA, they will have to bid for the job again.
The Football Association has asked for another tender on bids to act as consultant for England's World Cup drive. Peter Hargitay and Markus Siegler, ECN frontmen who know the ins and outs of FIFA, are livid at the move.
The FA claims they only had a six-month contract. FA chairman Lord Triesman decided that, with the preparation phase finished, a new tender process should be opened.
Triesman said he wants a transparent process. But Hargitay, a former advisor to FIFA president Sepp Blatter, and Siegler, a former FIFA director of communications, might be the wrong people to put off with the move.
A formal bid document to host must be received in autumn 2010.
The FA plans on asking various cities across England to make bids on matches if the Cup bid as a whole is successful. The FA plans to use a 10-host city plan. FA officials have visited Bristol, Portsmouth and Nottingham.
Some improvements will be needed. Capacity must be in excess of 40,000. FIFA requires venues to host hospitality and sponsor areas. Host cities must also provide fan parks.
