The mobile network are now able to watch highlights of the goals from English Premier League matches every Saturday afternoon at no additional charge as part of the company’s drive for greater market share. On all other match days highlights are available just five minutes after the final whistle. UEFA Champions League games are also included in the free service. Stephen Pilkington, Commercial Director, 3 Ireland, said: “We are delighted to bring this great mobile service to our customers, at no extra cost to them. We’re living in a fast-paced world where ‘Now’ is very much the order of the day – so Premier League fans throughout Ireland can get near instant gratification and view all the goals on their video mobiles. The new highlights package demonstrates our commitment to offering our customers the best mobile sports service in Ireland.” 3, which is owned by the Hong Kong conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa, has a 99.5% population coverage for voice and text, and a 3G service with 60 % reach. In comparison Vodafone, the only other operator in Ireland to launch 3G services so far, charges for many of the video content services it provides. 3 only entered the Irish market in July.
