English Wigan Athletic has appointed SPORTFIVE on an exclusive basis to market and sell their shirt sponsorship rights commencing in the 08/09 season. Although the relationship between JJB and Wigan Athletic will continue in terms of stadium naming rights and retail, the Club’s current deal with JJB as shirt sponsor expires at the end of the current season, after adorning the shirt since 1994.
Commenting on the appointment, Paul Hunt, the club's Commercial Director said, "JJB have been a superb sponsor and supporter of the club over the years, but we are now offering the opportunity for another ambitious brand to be a partner to the club. Football is the number one sport throughout the world and we will be targeting both national and international brands. SPORTFIVE were the obvious choice to partner with in our search for a new sponsor. Their heritage and experience in Football and their strength throughout the UK, Europe and the world impressed us; We are confident they will deliver for us."
Chris Rawlings, Managing Director, SPORTFIVE UK said, "Wigan Athletic FC is an ambitious and passionate club and we are pleased to be working with them in the search for a new sponsor."
