Derby County strikes Dutch deal

English Derby County will have a close-link Dutch partner in FC Utrecht.

The idea is similar in concept to English Manchester United's venture with Belgian Royal Antwerp.

Some of the ideas include a way for coaches to make visits between the two clubs and compare styles. There could be player loans, benefiting Derby County's younger players, who might get foreign first-team exposure.

"The idea is to exchange ideas and there are lots of positives for both clubs," Dervy County boss Paul Jewell told the Derby Telegraph. "It's an education. We can look at different things — coaching styles, youth set-up and there may be a case of us loaning them one or two of our young players to give them experience, a bit like Manchester United do with Antwerp."

In the same line, Holland will be Derby County's destination for a pre-season trip before the upcoming campaign. The club originally considered the United States. The opponents, date and venue have yet to be announced.

Logistics played a role in the move.
