European Football Pool continues Intertoto Cup support
FIFA & UEFA - 25 March, 2005
UEFA has renewed an agreement with the European Football Pool (EFP) for their support of the UEFA Intertoto Cup in the summer of 2005. In a ceremony at UEFA's headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, UEFA Chief Executive Lars-Christer Olsson signed a letter of extension for the 2005 competition together with the EFP president, Dieter Leinmüller. It has also been agreed that co-operation will occur to track irregularities in sports betting by strengthening the existing monitoring system among European lotteries and the data shared with UEFA. The formalising of this relationship will take place in Rome on 14 June. "I am very pleased to have signed an extension to our partnership with the EFP for the UEFA Intertoto Cup," said Mr Olsson. "This is an important European competition for many of the smaller club sides in Europe and provides the three winning finalists with a great opportunity to progress further in European competition, via the UEFA Cup." The Intertoto Cup is a summer competition allowing clubs that do not qualify for the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Cup to play European club football. The three winners take part in the UEFA Cup. The tournament was introduced in 1995 to replace the former International Football Cup.
