Beverage companies bring end to dispute for WC rights cooperation

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
German brewer Bitburger will drop its long legal battle against Anheuser-Busch, the US-based beverage company that was awarded the beverage rights to the forthcoming FIFA 2006 World Cup tournament in Germany, after Anheuser-Busch agreed to sell “bit” beer brand in the 12 tournament venues. The appointment of Anheuser Busch as official beverage supplier, paying US$40m as one of the tournament's 15 sponsors, caused protests in Germany, a country widely known for its strong lager. However, Bitburger will be allowed to sell its beer in the stadiums but it won't be allowed to use advertising.
