PA Sport and PFA launch the Players' Century Celebration Book
England - 08 May, 2008
PA Sport, the global leader in sports information, and the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA have joined forces to produce the PFA’s Official Centenary Celebration book, The Players' Century, with foreword from Michel Platini.
The PFA invited PA Sport to write, design and produce the illustrated book, which recounts a century of memorable sporting moments, with contributions from key footballers past and present. Editorial was provided by PA Sport and archive pictures by PA Photos.
As well as the foreword from Michel Platini, President of UEFA, The Players’ Century includes an exclusive interview with Sir Alex Ferguson. The book follows a match day theme with chapters including The build-up, Pre-match, A minute's silence, Kick-off, The Match, Action replay and A minute's applause.
Chris Buckley, Chief Executive Officer of PA Sport, said “We are delighted the PFA approached PA Sport to write and produce their official centenary book. The combination of their rich history and our extensive archives meant we were able to provide a unique insight into the last 100 years. PA Sport’s content and design services are now proving popular with publishers and clients, with similar projects planned in the near future."
Gordon Taylor OBE Chief Executive of the PFA said ”PA Sport were best placed to help produce this centenary book. Their exceptional knowledge combined with their editorial skill has made this a very simple process. The quality of production and design really does justice to the fantastic photography and well-written articles that celebrate 100 years of the PFA. We are delighted with the finished product.”
The PFA’s Centenary celebration match, featuring England Legends versus the Rest of the World XI at Manchester City in early December 2007, concluded their centenary year and is featured in the book. New photography of PFA memorabilia and some exhibits at the National Football Museum in Preston are also included in the 200 page book which was completed in January 2008 and will be available for sale early May.
