Champions League final tickets will be scarce

UEFA said demand is far exceeding supply when it comes to tickets for the Champions League final.

English Liverpool and Italian AC Milan will repeat the 2005 final at the 72,000-capacity Athens Olympic Stadium on 23rd May.

Each club will be allocated 20,000 tickets, but that likely won't be enough for either side.

"We know that however many tickets we provide it would never be enough - we could probably sell out a stadium with a million seats," said UEFA director of communication William Gaillard. "Our advice to fans is always not to travel without a ticket because we do not want them to be exploited by ticket touts, but of course people are free to travel if they wish.

"If they just want to savour the Athens experience then they can use the fan park in downtown Athens."

Despite some ugliness a month ago in play between English and Italian clubs, Gaillard feels comfortable with the matchup.

"There is no history of hostility between the fans," he said, "and it gives us an advantage that we have the experience of the two sets of fans in a final in similar circumstances two years ago."
