Rapids see upshot in ticket sales

MLS Colorado Rapids have seen an upshot in ticket sales by 150 percent as part of a series of highlights for the Rapids.

The club has a new home in Commerce City, Colorado and a new naming rights partner, Dick's Sporting Goods, a new strip and a new marketing agreement with Arsenal.

Plans are to secure a shirt sponsor in the manner of fellow MLS clubs, the Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas.

"Right now there are two founding partners, Coca Cola and HealthOne," business director Jeff Plush said. "I think we always envisioned eight total, so we are still talking to major companies to fill out those other categories. (We've) got another 25 other sponsors in multiple categories.

"We are actively talking to some companies about shirt sponsorship. That's not something we would do lightly. It's got to be the right kind of company. We're not like the rest of the world, especially Europe, where clubs like (Italian) Milan have such great brand strength. They have been around for 100 years or so."
