Philips extends sponsorship of Dutch PSV Eindhoven

Philips, the main sponsors of Dutch PSV Eindhoven, extended its contract by five years.

PSV Chairman Rob Westerhof announced the news Tuesday afternoon at the first official press conference of the new season.

Westerhof said that PSV have completed a five-year contract extension with Philips, lasting until the summer of 2011.

"We intend to develop marketing plans together and co-operate intensively in several fields," Westerhof said.

He also announced that business partners Rabobank Eindhoven and De Lage Landen will sponsor PSV. Westerhof said Volkswagen is the new car sponsors.

"We are delighted with the way our sponsors co-operate," Westerhof said.

PSV, Westerhof said, will make a small profit over the 2005-2006 season, after the club had suffered losses the past few seasons.

"We sold some players last year, among whom Lee and Park," he said. "Moreover we received Champions League price money and higher merchandise proceeds and the events organised in our stadium, such as the Guus Meeuwis gigs, were also financially rewarding."

The PSV Chairman hopes to complete the negotiations on re-financing the Philips Stadium by September.

"It is generally known that we feel the effects of the financial burden, caused by, among other issues, the high interest. We are having negotiations with a number of partners to find a long-term solution," he said.

Head coach Ronald Koeman introduced four new signings • Jelle de Bock, Manuel da Costa, Oscar Moens and Carlos Salcido.

"Obviously I hope we will gain just as many successes as last season," Koeman said. "However, the other top sides in Holland have taken their measures as well. PSV will always attempt to win the double and I feel the Johan Cruijff Shield contest is the first proper test.

"PSV did well in the Champions League campaign the past two seasons and we hope to progress to the knock out stages this season as well. I am confident, as we have succeeded in keeping last season's squad. Guus Hiddink did a marvellous job and I will carry on from there. Each coach has his own ideas, though, and I will try to put across mine on the squad."
