Playing to their fans, English Manchester United will tour South Africa in 2008 as opposed to the United States.
With Manchester United immensely popular in Africa and Asia, the club will stick there rather than make a play in the States.
Manchester United's current tour – in Asia – has been an unqualified success. As such, the belief is the club should keep going where the fans are based.
As Chelsea has already put together a tour in the United States, that also might have influenced Manchester United's decision.
"Chelsea over the last few years have been having a great time in America, which is fine, but we do what's right for us and we're comfortable with the opportunities with our history, our ground, our heritage, the way we play football," said Manchester United chief executive David Gill. "Is America ever going to be as passionate as the Asian market? I wouldn't have thought so."
Down the road, Gill also mentioned that Nigeria might be an option in future trips to Africa.
