FC Tirol’s former officials corruption trail opens

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
The trail of former club presidents Othmar Bruckmueller and Martin Kerscher, and former business manager Robert Hochstaffl , accused of financial corruption leading to the collapse of the club has began in Innsbruck court. Prosecution has argued that players were paid wages financed by disproportionate borrowing while the three accused failed to stop an outflow of cash that the club could not afford. The club ran into trouble in mid-2002, shortly after winning their third successive league title, with debts of €50m. Bruckmueller and Kerscher could face up to two years in jail while Hochstaffl could be imprisoned for 10. All three defendants have pleaded not guilty.
