BBC reports that Birmingham City Football Club is suspicious of irregularities in the club’s accounts and has contacted the West Midlands Police Force regarding the issue.

Members of the economic crime division of the police force had a meeting with club officials yesterday to determine whether or not there is probably cause for further investigation.

The police department released a statement saying that there is currently no criminal investigation underway, but that this is a ‘preliminary assessment’ related to the information that the club has presented.

The club declined to comment on the matter following the meeting.
