English Portsmouth Football Club has called the tax evasion charges alleged against chief executive Peter Storrie ‘seriously flawed,’ the Guardian reports.

The comment follows a claim made by HM Revenue and Customs. The claim states that Storrie attempted to conceal the true amount of a transaction during the GBO 1.5 million transfer of Amdy Faye from Auxerre for the purpose of avoiding taxes. The HMRC decided to investigate after finding that agent Willie McKay received a GBP 560,000 portion of the transaction, and interviewed the chief executive.

The club stated that the allegations were ‘unfounded,’ and Storrie has denied the charge. The chief will need to make an appearance on 16 November before the City of Westminster civil officers.

McKay declined to comment.
