A Spanish Football Federation tribunal ruled in Rafael Benitez favor of the Premier League club Liverpool manager after a following a dispute with former employers Spanish Primera Liga club Valencia. Benitez lodged a complaint against his former club after Valencia officials refused to pay the remainder of his contract plus bonuses for winning two Primera Liga titles and the UEFA Cup in three seasons at the Mestalla. Valencia had argued that Benitez had breached the terms of his contract for joining Liverpool in the summer and claimed his departure had inflicted "economic, sports and moral damages" on the club. Benitez assistant Pako Ayesteran, who also joined Liverpool, was awarded £419,000.
