On January 15, the F.Y.R. of Macedonia closed down the Macedonian FA offices and detained several managers at the ministry for an extended length of time. FIFA and UEFA sent a letter to the ministry of Macedonia to protest the incident.
"FIFA and UEFA are surprised by these actions by the Macedonian Interior Ministry, in a move that violates the principles of autonomy that applies throughout the sports movement," a statement read.
"FIFA and UEFA are asking the Macedonian government to bring the situation back to normal and to immediately stop interfering in the running of the football association."
FIFA and UEFA will decide what action to take if the Macedonian government continues to interfere, which is a disregard for article 17 of the FIFA statutes.
