A top-division coach was banned for life from the Belgian football federation, and his former club was relegated to the third division next season for their parts in a match-fixing scandal.
Former SK Lierse coach Paul Put, 51, was barred from holding any job in Belgian football by ruling of the federation's disciplinary panel. The federation may ask international federations to apply the ban abroad as well.
Put still faces criminal charges in the scandal allegedly run by Chinese businessman Zheyun Ye, who remains at large with an international arrest warrant on his head.
Authorities said Lierse players were paid to throw matches during the 2004-2005 season. The federation did not issue major penalties to the players involved.
SK Lierse, now a second-division club, were relegated to the third division next season, penalized six points and fined EUR 15,000.
