FIGC asks match-fixing investigation documents

The Football Federation (FIGC) have asked Genoa’s prosecutor for documents from the investigation of match-fixing between Genoa and Venezia. Media reports suggested that the prosecutor, who examines telephone taps of prominent gamblers in the city during the investigation, could provide evidence for other clubs involved in match-fixing.

Genoa won the Serie B title last season but instead of being promoted to Serie A, the club was relegated to the Serie C1 (third-tier) after an investigation found evidence of match-fixing in their final game of the season against Venezia. In August 2004, six players from Italy's top two divisions were banned for their role in gambling-related match-fixing after the Federation examined telephone and SMS interceptions.
