A former French Marseille coach had his jail sentence for embezzlement reduced by an appeals court.
Rolland Courbis had 1 ½ years lopped off his 3 ½-year sentence, and he will still coach second-division club Montpellier, not being ordered immediately to jail.
Main shareholder Robert Louis-Dreyfus also had his sentence reduced, earning a 10-month suspended sentence after originally getting a three-year suspended sentence. Courbis and Louis-Dreyfus were among 10 people charged with embezzling EUR 22 million in club funds, using a scheme that hid the money through alleged false bonuses in the transfer of 15 players from 1997-1999.
