The entanglement of former Cardiff City chairman Sam Hammam and the Langston company seems to grow.
The club has forwarded evidence to the High Court that says Hammam's money is Langston's money.
Langston has pushed for full repayment of a loan to the club, along with interest. That would total GBP 30 million and push Cardiff City toward administration. The club says the loan is not due until 2016.
Hammam had represented the company at some negotiations, but claimed not to work for Langston. It recently has come to the club's attention that he could be Langston.
Current club president Peter Risdale, who took over for Hammam, claimed in a witness statement that Hammam said he loaned the club GBP 30 million.
Cardiff City barrister David Wolfson lists the club's evidence for claiming "Hammam equals Langston" as the comment to Risdale, that he conducted all the negotiations on the company's behalf, that Hammam told Risdale how much of the loan notes he — not Langston — could write off, and that the large sum was loaned unsecured.
Wolfson vowed to find out who is behind Langston, which is registered in Panama with a Swiss postal box for its contact. The only public face of the company has been Hammam. Three registered directors which are British Virgin Islands-incorporated private companies.
Langston barrister Michael Driscoll QC told the court that the club was trying to get the judge to look at information that was not technically pertinent to the case.
The judge believes a verdict will be delivered within a week. A decision for Langston will send the club into administration likely. A decision for the club will push the case to trail sometime over the next 18 months.
Langston helped keep Cardiff City going with a loan in Oct. 2006. Langston claims that by bringing in a third company, which it has no claim on, a new contract was created for the club's stadium and the existing one terminated. Wolfson said there was no reason why Langston should care who builds the stadium, as it will be the club's upon completion.
