Fiorentina to fight points penalty

Adjust font size: Decrease font Enlarge font
An appeal to the civil courts may be on the agenda if the points penalty in a match-fixing trial is not annulled in front of the Italian Olympic Committee.

A lawyer for the Florence club said that eliminating the point penalty would not appease the club because they feel there has been no wrong doing.

The sports tribunal sentenced Fiorentina to a 19- point penalty this summer for its part in the corruption scandal also involving Juventus, AC Milan, Lazio and Reggina. Fiorentina owner Diego Della Valle was suspended for three years and nine months, his brother and club president Andrea for three years.

Juventus, relegated to Serie B with a 17-point penalty, Milan and Lazio, penalised respectively with eight and 11 points, have all asked for a penalty reduction from the arbitration chamber and agreed to remain within the sports justice regardless of the chamber ruling.
