The former head of the company building a new stadium in Munich was sentenced to 4.5 years in jail for taking a bribe. Karl-Heinz Wildmoser was dismissed from the project to build the €286m Allianz Arena last year. This followed accusations that he had taken an illegal €2.8m payment from Austrian builder Alpine for inside information about the contract bidding process. A Munich court found Wildmoser guilty of corruption and betrayal of confidence. Wildmoser's father, also called Karl-Heinz, stepped down as president of local club TSV 1860 Munich after being linked to the scandal. German champions Bayern Munich will share the new Allianz Arena with second division rivals 1860 Munich from next season. The stadium opens for a series of friendly matches later this month. It will be used as one of the showcase arenas for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, hosting the tournament's opening match as well as five others.
